Investigating the Effect of Calcium Lignosulfonate on the Durability and Performance of Asphalt Mixtures

Using bitumen modifiers to prolong the asphalt mixture’s life has been considered a practical approach in constructing mixtures. Among various modifiers, biomass ones have more noteworthy because of their abundance, cost-effectiveness, renewability, and sustainability. Calcium lignosulfonate (CLS), as plant-based modifier, studied enhance rheological properties bitumen. However, feasibility using CLS rutting retarder mixtures is still unclear. This study focused on durability containing powder modifier. Specifically, extensive laboratory tests were conducted determine performance against traffic loadings. In this study, begin, CLS-modified was manufactured high-shear mixer at dosages (5, 10, 15, 20 wt.%). Afterward, optimum content found Marshall mix design technique. Finally, series dynamic tests, including resilient modulus, creep, wheel-tracking combined with Zhou’s three-stage model Tukey method influence potential.
